Privacy
WenRayhin helps people find places in Lebanon and plan a day out. This page describes exactly what the app and the website collect, why, and who else sees it.
It is written from the database schema rather than from a template, so it describes this system and not a generic one. Where we hold nothing, it says so plainly — that is more useful than a long list of things we might theoretically collect.
Using it without an account
Most of the app works with no account at all: browsing, searching, planning a day, and saving places. Saved places and collections are stored on your own device and are not sent to us unless you sign in.
One thing is recorded without an account. When the app opens it sends a random identifier created on first launch, along with the platform and the app version. That identifier is not derived from your device, your phone number or anything about you, it is not shared with anyone, and clearing the app’s data replaces it with a new one. We use it to count how many people open the app, and for nothing else.
We do not store your IP address against that record. There is no column for it.
If you create an account
An account is optional and exists so your saved places, collections and plans follow you to another device.
- Email address
- Required. It is how you sign in — we send a link rather than asking you to invent another password.
- Name and profile photo
- Only if you sign in with Google or Apple and they provide it, or if you type a display name yourself.
- Language, home town and interests
- What you chose during onboarding, used to order what you are shown. You can change all of it in Settings.
Location
The Nearby tab asks for your location so it can sort places by how far away they are. That position is used to answer the request and is not stored.
If you turn on notifications, the app stores the last position it knew with your notification token. This is so a notification about a place can be sent to people near it rather than to everyone in the country. Turning notifications off in Settings deletes the token and the position with it.
Refusing the location permission is a supported way to use the app. Nearby will ask you to pick a town instead.
Planning and asking questions
When you plan a day or ask a question, what you type is sent to an AI provider that generates the answer, and both your message and the reply are stored so the conversation can be reopened later.
Write into it as you would write into any message that leaves your phone. It is a travel planner, and there is no reason to put anything sensitive into it — but it is our job to tell you where the words go rather than to assume you guessed.
Deleting a plan or a conversation in the app deletes the stored messages.
Who else sees any of this
We do not sell data and we do not share it for advertising. The services below are the ones that necessarily see something in order to work.
- The AI provider
- Receives what you type into Plan and Ask, in order to answer it.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google)
- Delivers push notifications to your device. Sees the notification and your device token.
- Sentry
- Receives crash and error reports so we can fix them. These contain the error and where in the code it happened.
- Vercel
- Hosts the website and counts page views. This applies to the website, not the app.
- Hetzner and Backblaze
- Host the servers, the database and the photographs, in Germany.
- Google Places
- Where most place facts and photographs come from. It receives no information about you — we query it about places, not about people.
Where it is kept, and for how long
The database and the photographs are hosted in Germany. Backups are encrypted and kept off-site.
Account data is kept until you delete the account. App-open records are kept as counts of usage over time. Conversations are kept until you delete them.
What you can do
Ask us for a copy of everything held against your account, or ask us to delete it. Deleting your account removes the account record, its saved places and collections, and its conversations.
Turn off notifications in Settings to delete your notification token and the position stored with it. Deny or revoke the location permission in your phone’s settings at any time; the app is built to work without it.
Clearing the app’s storage resets the identifier used to count app opens.
Children
WenRayhin is a guide to public places and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created one, write to us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this changes in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, we will say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page. The date at the top is the day the text last changed.
