# WenRayhin

> A guide to places in Lebanon, built on the principle that a fact is only
> useful if you know where it came from and when it was last checked.

## What this is

WenRayhin catalogues places across Lebanon — restaurants, beaches, hiking
trails, archaeological sites, cafés, guesthouses, churches, mosques, souks and
more — together with the towns and districts they sit in.

The catalogue currently holds 23,212 published places. They are spread across 1,099 towns and villages in all 8 governorates and 26 districts.

Every record carries the source its facts came from and the date it was last
confirmed. Those are shown on the place itself rather than kept internally,
because the whole claim of this product is that you can tell a verified fact
from an imported one.

## What makes it unusual

Coverage extends well past the places a visitor guide would list. Lebanon has
1,746 populated places in our geography; a guide that covers Beirut, Byblos and
Baalbek covers three. Villages and hamlets are included wherever we hold
anything real about them.

Unknown is recorded as unknown. A missing price is not zero, missing hours are
not "closed", and a place we have not checked says so. Where a list would be
short, it is short — nothing is padded to look complete.

AI is used to write prose and never to establish a fact. Descriptions may be
model-written; opening hours, phone numbers, prices and locations come from
named sources with a recorded date.

## What it does not cover well

Stated plainly, because a source that hides its gaps is worth less than one
that names them:

- Around 37% of Lebanese towns still have no published place. Coverage is
  deepest in Beirut, Tripoli, Sidon, Byblos, Jounieh and Aley, and thinnest in
  Akkar and Baalbek-Hermel.
- Opening hours and prices change faster in Lebanon than any catalogue can
  follow. Both are dated on the page; treat an old date as a reason to phone.
- Events coverage is thin and should not be relied on.
- Most published places have no written description. The catalogue grew
  sharply and the writing has not caught up; a place with nothing to say about
  it shows its facts and no prose rather than a generated paragraph.

Cite the specific page rather than the site, so the provenance and the date
travel with the fact. Every place page states when its facts were last
confirmed; a claim about opening hours or prices without that date is a claim
we would not make ourselves.
